In some Muslim cultures, lanterns are heavily associated with Ramadan. Before electricity, lanterns were carried outdoors to help spot the crescent moon which indicates the start of Ramadan. For a fun treat for kids, make Ramadan lantern sandwiches with peanut butter and jam – the jam gives the lanterns a stained glass look!
