We weren’t sure if it was a good idea to replicate something as holy as the Kaaba. So inspired by modern art and architecture, we designed a contemporary Eid-ul-Adha party featuring a cube. It’s reminiscent of the Kaaba but it’s not a replica of the Kaaba. Keeping it minimalist and modern, we designed this party as a cocktail party (think finger food, mocktails and mingling!)

Hang Wooden Cubes from the Ceiling
Fit your home for a celebration with this easy decor idea. Cut wooden square dowels, available at home improvement stores, using a mitre box and saw. (Alternatively some home improvement stores, such as Rona, have a cutting service you can make use of.) Arrange dowels into a cube formation with a glue gun. Spray paint black and use fishing wire to hang. We cut our dowels 6″ long, 9″ long and 12″ long to create cubes of varying sizes.
Serve Finger Food
Keep it classy and serve finger foods such as canapes, hors d’oeuvres, cocktail samosas and ceviche. Since red meat is a big part of Eid-ul-Adha, consider serving lamb chops which work well as a finger food and can easily satisfy bigger appetites.
When serving finger food, labelling everything lifts your party to new heights of sophistication. Download our free printable for tent cards to make your own labels.
Mix up Mocktails
Fresh fruit juice with carbonated water always makes a party come alive. Top it off with our easy drink stirrers printable. Print, cut out and insert into black coffee stirrers.
Don’t Forget Dessert
What would be a celebration without cake? We’re calling these cube pops. They’re cake pops but we formed them into cubes for our party. Chocolate cake dipped in candy melts and then sprinkled with black sugar? Drool.
Add Visual Appeal with Gift Wrappings
We grew up with the tradition that Eidi money is only for Eid-ul-Fitr, not Eid-ul-Adha. However, growing up Eid-ul-Adha was often in the days following Boxing Day. So we got presents instead of Eidi. We’re keeping those childhood memories strong by reserving money for Eid-ul-Fitr and wrapped gifts for Eid-ul-Adha.
Take a modern approach and use white wrapping paper for the presents. Embellish your gifts with black and gold fabric trim. This is sold by the meter at fabric stores. Allow for at least 1 meter of trim per present.
Add visual appeal by switching up how you apply the trim on each present. Make a classic bow, do a simple wrap around with gold cord, or create stripes or a zig-zag design with the trim.
Eid Mubarak everyone!

P.S. You could also use the drink stirrers printable as cupcake toppers by securing a toothpick to the printable. Instead of food labels, the tent cards can also be used as place cards if you’re having a sit-down, or buffet, dinner instead of a cocktail party.
